there has been alot of sensory processing problems the last few weeks as mikey has developed more speech.
it seems that when one area of his increases, the other drops off.
He has been unable to tollerate house guests, shopping centres, car trips, therapy sessions, church, and visits to his nanna's house.
normally most of these things he would be able to handle in small doses... he could shut out some things and make the most of what he was there for..
but lately he wont even sit in the pram for the shops, i understand that walking proves difficult when he's over sensitised at the shops... but even the pram wont help him 'centre' at the moment.
for a few days or week i couldn't figure out why he was going downhill...
and then it hit me when he came up to me, held my hand and said "come with me to computer"
the words were broken and mumbled... but he spoke a sentence and request!
it was insane!
i then was able to notice that he was saying more sentences or questions.
things like
"yes i want that one"
"mummy i need a nappy"
"look over there, get it"
"push that button there"
and many more direct comments to do things like pick up or click the button...
amazing leaps forward in speech... but at a cost.
Our last experience with this sort of progress was that once his sensory processing came back up to where we can function, most of the words he learned would then disapear... but still some stayed and i am hoping that some of his sentences will remain but only time can tell.
his vocab explosion is wonderful... but the sensory problems have meant that i'm unable to leave the house with him without a big meltdown.
he can tollerate therapy sessions and the routine surrounding that... but anywhere else and we have a big problem on our hands.
So heres hoping that sometime soon his senses reboot and we're able to function again and play outside with mikey... but until then, atleast i can understand what he's saying :)
