Over the past few days Adam and I have been really rejoicing in the words and sentences Mikey is using.
He will come to us in the living room and say 'come with me' and direct us to the kitchen or downstairs.
he's even begun to say 'come with me downstairs'
these leaps forward in communication are both surprising and joyful... for years all we've heard out of mikey were just sounds, baby talk, grunts and cries... all this would be met with confusion and then frustration on both parts. But now Mikey is able to tell us that he wants us to go with him which replaces his inability to request a certain object or food.
He doesn't know how to say - can i please have a cracker, or can i please have a sandwich... but he can say 'please come with me', then he opens the cupboard or fridge and says 'that one' and points to what he wants. If we get it wrong he says 'No, that one' and points again, if we get it right he says 'yes! that one!' and stands back and allows us to prepare whatever it is. hehe.
It's been so lovely to see him getting excited about communication and being able to have us understand what he wants...
I think we need to be prepared for some big 'spend time with me' requests as he begins to understand how to interact with his parents and others.

That's fantastic Kirsty! Its great to rejoice in those little steps. The fact that he's understanding that communication can be useful, is a big step.
