New Cool Stuff

Mikey's Sensory Processing Disorder is probably the BIGGEST part of his autism. this is what causes his problems with food, shopping centres, people, noises, baths, etc...

Today we received a package of things we'd bought online at a great store called Senseabilities.com.au.

they specialise in Occupational Therapy items for chidlren with special needs.

So today was like christmas :D this is what we bought

Black Weighted Vest - it's a normal tailored looking vest which has 4 pockets (two front, two back) and little bean bag style weights which fit in each pocket to make it heavy.

An Orange Weighted Lap Bag - like it describes, it's a big bag style beanbag (large rectangular and sectioned with weights in each section for even distribution) which goes across Mikey's lap when he's sitting in class to help him STAY there and focus.

A gorgeous little puppy dog - it's a weighted dog, it's like a normal heat pack but in the shape of a fluffy doggy toy and it smells like Lavender. this is a sleep aid but also great for taking to church or somewhere at the shops or something where it can sit on his lap in the pram and provide a less eye catching therapy while in public.

CHEWIES - chewies are latex or silicone.... not sure exactly... but they're a firm shaped tube which provides oral stimulation to a child with sucking, chewing or blowing sensory seeking - like mikey.
these are intended to replace dummies or abnormal eating habits.
we bought a few different kinds to see how he goes.

Whistles - we bought a bird whistle, you put water in it and it sounds like a bird. Also an Elephant one and a mouth shaped wolf whistle one.

Harmonica - it's a mouth shape. mikey has alot of effort ot use this so thats great for him to work toward figuring it out.

Also bought some Pop Beads. we've been planning on buying these for a while now and they're great for fine motor skills and pencil grib development.

I already have used the vest and it was greatly successful int he shops.

mikey was able to sit still int he trolley while we did the shopping and even when he asked for it to come off, i told him no but that he can have it off after we leave the shops and HE UNDERSTOOD! very very very cool.
