Light it up Blue
This weekend Saturday 2nd April is the World Autism Awareness Day. Wear Blue and talk about Autism to raise awareness and support. the more knowledge that is out there, the better our children will be understood in the public eye. Autism is not the latest fad for diagnosis or labelling of children! it's awareness that some children do have special needs and the earlier it's identified, the better chance they have in life of being able to migrate with mainstream activities and employment as adults. Mikey's school is operating a Light it up Blue day tomorrow and he is going to wear a pale blue tshirt. I wish i'd read the newsletter earlier as i'd have bought a polo shirt for him ahead of time, but the slogan tee from big w will have to do. I have made little removable stickers for mikey (fake tattoos) with the autism ribbon and puzzle pieces... i'll put one on his hand :) it should be fun for him. he loves stickers. On Saturday we're also having a little BBQ to make a public spectacle for Autism Awareness where friends and family are being asked to wear blue. More of the skin stickers will be there and also a banner or two to increase publicity. AND this month in April i'm hosting with my friends a 'drawtism' event which is a fundraiser incorporating pictionary. Why Pictionary? because children with Autism are very good at using visual ques for communication. More so than speaking or reading. a picture tells a thousand words :) i can't WAIT! it's going to be unreal.
