Todays Ventures

This morning Mikey, Annabelle, Zoe and I headed to Erina fair to visit the Early Learning store and Socrates to try and find some educational construction toys that i've been on the look out for.

While we were there at the Early Learning Centre i found those bouncing ball things that kids can hold onto while sitting and scooting around on their bottom... so i bought two, one each for mikey and belle, at just $14 each.
i found a few things which could've been good but no real theraputic sense to them.

So over to Socrates i go - the main thing i've bene looking for are what i now know are called Magnetic Stix and Balls. you can make different shapes with them... primarily focussed at making molecule looking things i think. but mikey just loves them.
I didn't find them but i found out what they were called.

What i purchased from Socrates was a thing called Wedgits. It's a diamond shape made up of several pieces which can be made into so many different shapes and creatures. Mikey has been enjoying it this afternoon and now that he's worn it out, it's in it's box awaiting the next scheduled play session.

I also bought a bubble machine. most of our bianchi family knows just how much mikey loves bubbles... i dont have the chance to sit down with him for 20-30 minutes blowing bubbles, BUT with the bubble machine, I can put some music on and Mikey and Belle can dance around jumping and swatting at the bubbles to their hearts content.

Because they're moving about it doubles up as Mikey's weight bearing activity which has to be done every 2 hours.

I found some educational and creative construction toys that would benefit mikey also and i've contacted our OT about this and hopefully she'll be interested in purchasing these for mikey and billing FACHSIA to help build the learning centre at home.

I mentioned to Coralie in the same email about the foam wedges and blocks from clarks rubber that i want to help with mikeys activities.

Todays therapy has been going well - Mikey has been receptive to the brushing which is good. He wasn't receptive to it initially and so while at his OT appointment, Coralie and I thought it would be good to set an alarm with a particular sound to help him generalise the therapy - because he was only associating the brushing with coralie... so i set off the alarm and coralie did the brushing.. and then when i got home i set off the alarm and it worked, mikey let me do his therapy and enjoyed it.
So today this has been working well for us - Mikey loves the brushing and then loves the jumping, rolling, squishing and bouncing that comes after it.

Annabelle is beginning to want to be brushed and rolled and squished too haha. it's fun.

so thats my run down of today... been a hectic day.
