today's events

So we had OT and Psych today for mikey man.

Occupational therapy went well - he did all his puzzles really well and drew some great pictures aswell as naming 8 animals and matching them up.
His drawing. animal and colour knowledge, counting and puzzle play is at an age appropriate level which is great!
we knew he had age appropriate fine motor skills and i'm proud of him to know all his animals and colours so far as he does. it means i've helped him greatly through our home efforts.

Mikey is still very sensitive with touching, taste, sight and hearing... these haven't progressed.

we have exercises to conduct at home which consist of helping to break through his sensory seeking with his mouth - he licks everything and everyone most of the time - and also provide him with sensory stimulation to his body to help him be less seeking in the other ways.

We need to get ourselves a mini tramp and a fitball for his OT... and he will be jumping to stimulate himself, also with his tummy on the ball - rolling forwards onto his hands, and backwards onto his feet repeatedly.
i also have some actions to do in his mouth to provide an oral stimulation as opposed to his dummy...

they have these things called Chewies which are given to chidlren like Mikey who require the oral stimulation as a comfort so that they can relinquish the dummy - it doesn't look 'normal' but it doesn't look as bad as a pacifier does in a 5yo's mouth which would be the case if we dont try and take this thing off him a bit more effectively.

So if the sensory stiumlation touches dont work, the chewie is our next option which is great.

Ok so that was OT

Psychology was basic... the psychologist is so airy fairy. ughl i hate shrinks like that haha. but he is lovely and is great to mikey and mikey enjoyed playing at the office with the toys etc...
his name is Terry and he's about middle aged and vry educated.

So... i guess the only real thing that came out of todays session was that mikey is not ADD or ADHD. that ws the main and first observation the therapist was able to make.
he also said that mikey is very emotional and places alot of his actions and thoughts on his emotions and how he feels about things..

the thing i loved about each of these sessions was that each therapist commented on how gorgeous he was - how sweet and very cute my boy is.
